Minister's words...
Dear Beloved
Congregation,
It was with shock and great sadness that I received the news of
Marie Keifer's sudden death on Saturday, October 31. Marie served as our
Director of Religious Education for over 5 years, leaving for full time
employment at the end of 2008. She was consistently kind and had a strong
commitment to and talent for helping others shine their light. She was also a
strong administrator and had a great sense of humor. Marie and her family have
been longtime and active members of the Unitarian Universalist congregation in
Nashua. Our Co-President,
Nancy Baker, will be in touch with their minister, Rev. Steve Edington to learn
ways that we can support Marie's family. You can be sure that we will let you
know about arrangements for a service of remembrance as soon as we know. I am
currently away but will return to be with you on Sunday morning, November 8 for
our All Souls Sunday when we will be lighting candles for those we have loved
and lost, including Marie.
With love and best wishes to you
all,
Barbara
Rev. Barbara
McKusick Liscord

Dear Members and Friends,
We
know that you are wondering what you can do for Marie Keifer’s family following
her sudden death and when there might be a service of celebration of her
life. After talking with the Nashua UU church this morning, here
is some further helpful information. On the website of the Nashua
church there is a link to “In memory of Marie…” Here you can post
your memories of her, photos, and notes to her family. On the site
there is also a place to sign up to bring meals or other support to the family
if you wish. Notes and cards can also be sent to the home at 22 Monica Drive,
Nashua 03062-2363. Marie’s husband is Henry Zalman. Henry and the boys will have a private service on Wednesday,
but the earliest a public memorial service would take place would be Friday,
perhaps in the evening. Again, details are still in the early stages, so nothing
is definite yet. Marie will be cremated and her ashes interred in
the memorial garden at the Nashua church. We have arranged to get
updates as the members of the Nashua church do, and will pass on any new
information to you as soon as we have it. We encourage you to join in the “in
memory of Marie” page on the Nashua website as the family finds comfort in these
messages and this is a way we can support them in this very difficult
time. Marie was such a warm and steady part of us for years, and
we have many happy memories of her work with us and our children.
We’ll keep you posted, and hope that many of you will go with us to the
Nashua church when the time comes to celebrate her life.

Contributions...
Marie's family has indicated that they much
prefer that people make contributions to the Nashua Soup Kitchen and/or the
Nashua Children's Home in Marie's memory instead of setting up a fund. You may
send donations for the Nashua Soup Kitchen to: Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter,
PO Box 3116, Nashua, NH 03061-3116. Donations for the Nashua Children's Home
may be sent to: Nashua Children's Home, 125 Amherst Street, Nashua, NH 03062.
Please note In Memory of Marie Keifer in the memo line of your check. (If you
prefer, donations may also be left at the church and subsequently forwarded to
the appropriate organization as well.)
If you plan to go to the
memorial service at 5:30 PM on Friday in Nashua and would like to carpool,
please meet at our church at 4:30 PM. If you need a ride, please call Nancy
Baker at 673-7659 or email at ntbaker@att.net.
